A QUANTITY OF CAM BRAKE ANCHOR PINS WAS FOUND TO BE PROCESSED (HARDENED) INCORRECTLY. IF CAM BRAKES WERE TO BE ASSEMBLED USING THE IMPROPERLY PROCESSED ANCHOR PINS, A FRACTURE OF THE ANCHOR PIN COULD OCCUR DURING BRAKE APPLICATION, CAUSING LOSS OF PROPER TENSION OF THE BRAKE SHOES AND ATTENDANT REDUCTION IN THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THAT BRAKE. THIS DEFECT COULD CAUSE VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING IN THAT WHEEL LOCK-UP COULD OCCUR, AFFECTING DIRECTIONAL STABILITY.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1975022.
