IF PROPER STARTING PROCEDURE IS NOT FOLLOWED, LEAN CARBURETOR SETTINGS REQUIRED FOR EXHAUST EMISSIONS MAY CAUSE BACKFIRE THROUGH THE CARBURETOR, CAUSING POTENTIALLY IGNITABLE FUEL DROPLETS TO BE ABSORBED BY AIR CLEANER. THE SAME CONDITION COULD RESULT FROM ENGINE REACHING OPERATING TEMPERATURE.
