TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH HUTCHENS 4 FOOT SPREAD SUSPENSIONS MAY HAVE AN AXLE BOTTOM PLATE MADE OF HIGH PHOSPHOROUS CONTENT STEEL THAT COULD FRACTURE. FRACTURE OF ONE OR MORE BOTTOM PLATES ON A SINGLE AXLE COULD ALLOW THE AXLE TO MOVE OUT OF POSITION ALLOWING THE SPRINGS TO DETACH. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE TIRES TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE TRAILER FRAME POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH HUTCHENS 6 FOOT SPREAD SUSPENSIONS MAY HAVE AN EQUALIZER (ROCKER) BEAM MADE OF SIMILAR HIGH PHOSPHOROUS CONTENT STEEL THAT COULD FRACTURE.
Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1979148.
