THE SPRING WHICH HOLDS THE LATCH OF THE FRONT DOOR LOCK IN PLACE COULD BREAK. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE DOOR'S PRIMARY LOCK POSITION MAY NOT HOLD, AND THE DOOR WILL BE HELD IN PLACE ONLY BY THE SECONDARY LOCK POSITION. SINCE THE SECONDARY LOCK POSITION IS NOT DESIGNED TO HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED UNDER FORCE, THE FRONT OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE WOULD BE EXPOSED TO DANGER IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR WHEN EXTREME FORCES ARE EXERTED ON THE INTERIOR OF THE DOOR.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1984083.
