On certain vehicles, the front wheel bearings may not have received sufficient lubrication during assembly. This could cause the bearings to overheat, which may result in spalling, seizing, and eventual breakdown. Such damage could cause a wheel fire, wheel lockup, or wheel separation, which could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash. Should a wheel separate from the vehicle, it could pose a danger to nearby motorists or bystanders, which could result in property damage, personal injury, or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace and/or properly lubricate the front axle wheel bearings.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2008099.
