SRL260522 – AGM-BATT – Check printed circuit board on battery for damage

As part of our continuous quality monitoring we have identified that in Actros 963 Arocs 964 vehicles with integral rear area and eActros 300/400 with fleece battery (absorbent glass mat) a thermal reaction may occur due to corrosion on the ACE chip (Advanced Connected Energy). Battery data can be evaluated via a Bluetooth interface using the integrated ACE chip. During assembly of the ACE chip at the supplier’s premises it is inserted into the recess provided between the battery terminals poured with resin (liquid plastic) and closed with the battery cover to protect against corrosion in a fully automated and quantity-controlled process. When filling with resin there may have been an insufficient fill level in the niche as well as an ACE chip inserted at an angle. The exposed connection points of the supply lines or the chip itself may corrode due to inadequate sealing. A corroded connection or corroded ACE chip may lead to increased electrical transitional resistance which may trigger a thermal reaction leading to a battery fire. In the worst case flames may spread to surrounding components or the vehicle. There is a risk of fire.

Check printed circuit board in on-board electrical system battery for damage. Replace on-board electrical system battery (after check) if necessary.
