THE FASTENERS WHICH JOIN THE REAR AXLE BRAKE DRUMS TO THE WHEELS WERE NOT TIGHTENED TO THE PROPER TORQUE DUE TO A SPECIFICATION ERROR. THIS COULD LEAD TO A LOOSENING CONDITION AND SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE TO THE DRUM AND BRAKES OF THE AFFECTED WHEEL. IN THE CASE OF AVEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH AIR BRAKES, STOPPING DISTANCES WOULD BE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY. A VEHICLE EQUIPED WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKES COULD SUFFER A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY. THIS CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1983028.
