Issue: rnOn certain cars equipped with an automatic transmission, the shifter cable may detach. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. If a driver attempts to exit the car while it is not in the Park position, and the parking brake is not applied, the car could move suddenly. rn rnSafety Risk: rnSudden and unexpected movement of the car could increase the risk of a crash. rn rnCorrective Actions: rnThe company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the transmission side shifter cable bushing with an improved one. rnNote: The gear position indicator on the instrument cluster and next to the shifter will continue to work properly. In addition, if the driver's door is opened while the transmission is not in Park, the door ajar messages will display on the instrument cluster and chimes will sound.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2019183.
