Ford EXPLORER in the other registers

This site holds seven national and European registers. Ford EXPLORER is named on 91 American notices, 15 British, 13 European and 71 Israeli. Those are separate campaigns, filed with separate authorities on their own schedules.

Nothing here says any of these is this notice in another country. A model recalled in one country is often recalled in another, in different words and at a different time, and the authorities do not cross-reference each other. Reading them together is the reason this site holds more than one register.

Issue:
On certain vehicles, the driveshaft could break. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels. A driveshaft that separates could also damage the fuel tank and cause a fuel leak. Additionally, the vehicle could move when the transmission is in Park, and the parking brake is not used.
Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 3.0 L or 3.3 L engine.

Safety Risk:
A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A parked vehicle that rolls away could also create the risk of an injury or a crash.

Corrective Actions:
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driveshaft label. Dealers will replace the driveshaft, if needed.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2020537.

Reading this against the source

This page is what Transport Canada published in the Vehicle Recalls Database, kept as it was read. The authority publishes only its current wording; if a notice is rewritten, the earlier version disappears there and is kept here. The whole register is at /canada, and how the reading is done is set out in the method.

What the words on this notice mean — the system it is filed under, and what the filing type says about who found the fault.

This notice names one vehicle among several registers that have written about it. Every notice this site holds for the Ford Explorer, in all seven, is kept on that vehicle's own page, with the newest in each.

This register keeps an index of its own for every maker and every year it holds: Canadian recalls on a Ford: 1,346 in the register, and 536 Canadian vehicle recalls filed in 2020.
