Transport Canada carries this recall as 2023243, dated 21 April 2023. The American register carries the same defect as campaign 23V283, dated 20 April 2023. They are the same defect because the manufacturer filed both under one internal campaign code, 23S17.

The two registers are 1 day apart: the American entry is dated first, the Canadian one second.

These are the dates each register records against its own notice. They are separate administrative acts in two countries, recorded by two authorities under two sets of rules, and this page does not claim that one caused the other or that owners in either country were contacted on those days. What it shows is that the same manufacturer campaign reached the two registers on different dates.

Read the American notice 23V283, including every earlier version of its wording this site holds. The Canadian register explains why the manufacturer code is published there and what that makes possible. Canada and America sets every matched pair side by side.

Issue: rnOn certain vehicles, the wheel lug nuts may not have been properly tightened on the left-side of the vehicle. As a result, the lug nuts could loosen or fall off. If this happens, a wheel could separate from the vehicle. rnrnSafety Risk: rnA wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle. rnrnCorrective Actions: rnFord advises not to drive your vehicle until the wheel lug nuts have been inspected and tightened properly. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact a local dealer to arrange for this inspection. The dealer will replace any damaged lug nuts, wheel studs and wheels, as necessary.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2023243.
